How to live (or not) in a bubble
A huge component of what I do as an artist is work to build community. This past November, I had a chance to speak at TEDxRochester. This was actually my second time doing this. The first was just over four years ago at the first TEDxRochester event. I spoke then about my method of community-building through public art projects. And of course, anyone following my blog knows I'm in the middle of one such project (Balloon Manor) now. I was thrilled to be invited to speak again.
This time, I decided to make it a little more personal. Rather than addressing the art that I use in these community-building efforts, I spoke more about why I feel the need to do it at all. The video of that talk was just posted online, and I want to share it with the large community of artists that I'm part of here.
The organizer of TEDxRochester, Tony Karakashian, posted his thoughts on this on the TEDxRochester blog.
I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on this. Thanks.
