Erie Canal Boat

The Erie Canal, one of the longest canals in the world when it was completed in the 1800s, is still celebrated today. It may not serve the same purpose it once did as a means of transporting goods through New York State, but it's still an active waterway with festivals around it throughout the summer. I got to take part in one of those festivals, in Fort Hunter, NY in July. Thanks to the folks at the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site for hosting one of our Bubble Mural projects.

As with all of our Bubble Murals, the public did the bulk of the construction. This 30-foot canal boat was assembled by many people attending the festival over the course of two days. Special thanks to Jenny Galough for providing the still photos included in the video.
