The Airigami Bubble Mural DIY kit is designed to be easy for a maker audience to assemble as a group. The package includes balloons, inflators, and sizing templates, along with a series of videos for all participants to follow and an instruction guide for the project leader.
The items not included in the kit that you need to provide are 3 or 5 (5 recommended) video players/monitors, and a 10’ pole or frame to suspend the mural. The final mural will be roughly 10’ x 10’ in size. Roughly 200 participants can take part, with each participant adding a single unit to the mural. Participants taking part for the first time typically require roughly 5 minutes to complete and add their unit to the mural. Since people move from one station to the next as they work, new participants can start roughly 1 minute apart. At full speed, this means, 3 people can finish their units every 5 minutes.
Frequently asked questions
What mural designs are available to choose from?
DIY kits are limited to a few simple designs that are easy to follow. At the current time, the designs we have available are:
Makey (The Maker Faire mascot - Available for Maker Faires), Lightbulb, Castle, Rubber ducky, Heart, Pumpkin, Smiley face, Snowman, Tree
We add new items from time to time. Ask us if you don’t see what you’re looking for.
How long does it take to set up a mural?
One of our artists using professional equipment can generally set up a Bubble Mural (including setting up the video stations) in about two hours. We anticipate it will take two people 4 hours to inflate and tie these balloons and set up the display.
How long does a mural take to complete?
We see these done most often at one-day events. They are typically completed in 4-6 hours. We have also seen schools and libraries do it slowly over several days when not directly connected to an event.
How much staffing is needed during an event?
While the videos are created to be easy to follow, at an event where the line needs to keep moving and there are large numbers of people, we recommend having a volunteer posted at each video monitor to ensure people follow the steps correctly and in order.
How much does it cost?
A single use Bubble Mural kit costds $1500. A refill kit that includes balloons, a new project map, and a license for another use is $300. Refill kits are intended for the original purchaser.
Are there educational discounts for libraries and schools?
We aren't able to offer discounts on the initial package, however libraries within a single library system or schools within a district may share the original kit and just purchase refill kits with additional licenses.
